Mission
The Northern California Psychiatric Society, a District Branch of the American Psychiatric Association, held its first meeting in January 1954 and incorporated in this name under the laws of the State of California as a non-profit organization on November 13, 1958. The objectives of the society are:
- to improve the treatment, rehabilitation, and care of the mentally ill, the developmentally disabled, and the emotionally disturbed;
- to promote research, professional education in psychiatry and allied fields, and the prevention of psychiatric disabilities;
- to advance the standards of all psychiatric services and facilities;
- to foster cooperation of all who are concerned with the medical, psychological, social and legal aspects of mental health and illness;
- to make psychiatric knowledge available to other practitioners of medicine, to scientists in other fields of knowledge, and to the public;
- to promote the bet interests of patients and those actually or potentially making use of mental health services; and,
- to provide appropriate services to members of the Northern California Psychiatric Society.
